QUEEN ANNE’S COUNTY
HOMEMAKERS CREED

I BELIEVE IN MY RURAL HOME, THE EARTHLY ABODE, OF MY FAMILY; AND ITS RESPONSIBILITIES, SPIRITUAL, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL TO DEVELOP A LOVE OF GOD, OF COUNTRY AND FELLOWMAN, A LOVE OF RURAL LIFE, OF HONEST WORK AND RECREATION, AND THE HABIT OF FINDING ENJOYMENT IN FAMILIAR THINGS.

I BELIEVE MY RURAL HOME TO BE A PLACE UNDER GOD’S GUIDANCE OF REST, OF PRIVACY, OF SECURITY, OF HOSPITALITY, OF CULTURE, OF PERSONA, TREASURES, OF HONESTY, OF LOYALTY AND LOVE OF THE FAMILY, BY THE FAMILY, FOR THE FAMILY.

I’M A HOMEMAKER

They said I should join and I would be told
How to cook and to sew and never grow old.
How to live with the young, with myself, and my spouse,
So I became a member with the best of intentions,
I went to the lectures, seminars and conventions,

I attended a lesson on budgeting time
Where every duty could be set up on line.
I would find at the end of this well structured day
All of the tasks would be out of the way.
But the meeting was long and I left on the run
For not a single thing for my dinner was done.
I dashed in the store, grabbed up two cans of chili,
Fruit Jello, and rolls; then home willy-nilly.
After putting the chili in the good old crock pot,
Set the rolls in the oven smelling yeasty and hot,
The table was set, the Jello in place,
I greeted my brood with a smile on my face.
They drew their conclusions without really looking,
That I’d spent the whole day just busily cooking.”
When one of them said: “Hey, Mom, a good meal”
I shrugged as I answered: “Oh well, no big deal!”

Then there was the time when guests were invited,
Things went just like clock-work and i was delighted.

To have everything perfect by time the arrived.
I greeted my guests by a fire-place glowing,
My children came in, company manners showing,
And then all were seated midst candles and flowers,
The food was delicious: they lingered for hours.
When somebody praised the rolls and the roast
I heard my husband quietly boast,

SHE’S A HOMEMAKER

The programs have given me big dividends,
It has widened my horizons and doubled my friends.
And that is why at the end of each day,
When I give my thanks I always say: “I’m glad
