Queen Anne’s County Council of Homemakers January 18, 2018

The January 18, 2018 meeting of the Queen Anne’s County Council of Homemakers was called to order at 10 A.M.by President Dottie Grier. Madelyn Hollis opened with prayer, after which a moment of silence was held for Ethel Boyle’s brother, Bradford Moore, who passed away two weeks ago.

We recited the Homemakers Creed, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes from the November 14, 2017 Fall Luncheon Meeting were read by Annabelle Taylor; as Ann Vogt, our secretary, could not be with us today. Phyllis Boone moved the minutes be accepted as read. Madelyn Hollis seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Treasurer, Annabelle Taylor, gave the Treasurer’s report, and reported balances ($ on file) in the checking account and ($ on file) in the C.D. Ethel Boyle moved we accept the Treasurer’s report. Mary Ellen Leaverton seconded the motion. Motion carried. The report will be filed for audit.

Health Chair, Barbara Hanifee, was not feeling well and could not be with us today. Phyllis Boone recommended that we schedule an appointment with a Dermatologist to check for pre-cancerous spots on our face and other parts of our skin.

Historian, Ethel Boyle, said she continues to save articles; and puts them in our scrap books.

Home Arts Chair, Mary Ellen Leaverton, said we will have a new software program for the Home Arts Department at the Fair.

Web Page Chair, Elaine Dow, reported on a new wave Pressure Cooker. Roxanne Hoxter moved we change the wording in our Homemaker Handbook from Email: www.QACHomemakers.org to Web Page: QACHomemakers.org. Elaine Dow seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Publicity Chair, Phyllis Boone, said she did not have anything to report at this time.

Scholarship Chair, Annabelle Taylor, said Christin Houtz, recipient of our scholarship for 2017, will graduate the end of December.

OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Evaluation of our Fall Luncheon: It was very nice. Good food. Excellent Speaker.
  2. Dues: We will pay dues for 2017 and 2018 this year at $2.00 per member per year for a total of $4.00 per member.

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Spring Luncheon Program: Singer Trudy Wilmer was suggested. Arlene Warner will contact her and see if she is available, and how much she charges. (Dottie Grier would like to get Scott MacGlashan to speak on new regulations with Estates, etc. for the Fall Luncheon.)
  2. Dottie Grier asked that we go back to our clubs and ask who would be willing to serve on a committee.
  3. Serving on the Nomination Committee will be: Arlene Warner, Chairperson; Elaine Dow, and Phyllis Boone.
  4. Home Arts Committee: Mary Ellen Leaverton, Chairperson; Patty Quarterio, and Kelly Somers.
  5. Recognition Committee: Ethel Boyle, Chairperson; Roxanne Hollis and Dottie Grier. (Note: The Recognition Committee will request nominee’s resume’s by March 10th.)
  6. Dottie would like us to read through our Bylaws; and report back at our September meeting.
  7. The Wye mills Club will host our Spring Luncheon at Mamma Mia’s Restaurant in Centerville. we will order from the menu and pay for it.
  8. President’s Reports: Summary of their programs for the past year: Lucretia Kennard: President Roxanne Hollis gave their report; Sudlersville: Annabelle Taylor gave their report, as President Carol Wilson was sick; Chesterville: President Ann Vogt could not be here today, so Annabelle read their report; Septem; President Elaine Dow gave their report; Wye Mills; President Kelly Somers gave their report; Templeville: President Arlene Warner gave their report.

Mary Ellen Leaverton moved we adjourn. Roxanne Hollis seconded the motion. motion Carried. The meeting was adjourned. Following the meeting we all enjoyed a delicious covered dish luncheon.

January 19, 2018 – RE: Gifts of $25.00 each for Sue Wolfe and Sheila Shorter, Extension office secretaries, to thank them for their services. A telephone poll was taken of the Executive Committee to do this, and all were in favor. We have been giving them this gift for the past several years,
