Queen Anne County Council of Homemakers April 10, 2018

The April 10, 2018 luncheon meeting of the Queen Anne County Council of Homemakers was called to order by President Dottie Grier at 11:25 am. We recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sand “God Bless America,” and recited the Homemakers Creed. Kelly Somers, President of our host Wye Mills Club, welcomed all. Past Council Presidents we recognized as were current Club Presidents.

Roll was taken with the following results:

Lucretia Kennard   10
Septem                      6
Sudlersville               3
Templeville               2
Wye Mills                 10

The Treasure’s Report showed balances of ($Total on file) in the checking account and ($Total on file) in the C.D. It was accepted and filed for audit.

Home Arts Chair, Mary Ellen Leaverton, stated that help was needed at the Fair. People need to keep a count of ribbons  won by them at this year’s fair. Cup prices will remain at $25 each. Ethel Boyle moved and Annabel Taylor seconded a motion to purchase a 1/4 page ad in the Fair Program for $75. Motion passed. A Rose Afghan will be raffled to pay for this. The Stich-In-Time Award will be awarded on Wednesday evening.

A Moment of Silence was observed for deceased members.

The Recognition Award will be awarded in the Fall. Nominations are due by the September Council meeting to Ethel Boyle.

Publicity Chair, Phyllis Boone, has agreed to be Health Chair. This was moved by Elaine Dow and seconded by Kelly Somers. Motion passed.

The Nominating Committee Chair, Elaine Dow, reported that nominations for Vice President should be made by the September Council Meeting.

Scholarship Chair, Annabel Taylor, reported that the Spring Scholarship does not have a recipient because the Fall recipient graduated in December.

Webpage Chair, Elaine Dow reported that a “Thank You” for cup donations was sent. She reminded us that locally-grown strawberries and peaches were much better for us than foreign-grown items. Ann Vogt suggested that the same is true for blueberries grown in Moore’s Meadows or Hammonton, New Jersey.

Our speakers were John Niger, President of Friends of Wye Mills, and Robert Zimmerman, a member of the same organization. They operate the mill from May to November. They grind grain into flour. The mill sold flour to the Continental Army. Mr. Niger showed us some old bags. Some of the bags were used in the Berlin Air Lift. Mr. Zimmerman showed us how the Friends were preserving some of the old bags for the future. He showed us how they were put on backing and enclosed in glass. He requested people to help in this project. He got the number he requested and then some.

Because Phyllis Boone has agreed to be Health Chair, Kelly Somers has agreed to be Publicity Chair.

Patty Quarterio will get the Fair Home Arts helpers.

We need people for the Audit, Publicity, By-Laws and Budget Committees.

Door Prizes were awarded.

Ann Vogt moved and Pat Dinny seconded a motion to adjourn. Motion passed. The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Ann Vogt
